Mama White Chinese goose took off with the 5 goslings, escorted by 2 ganders. One little yellow one was running up and down the fence-line, on the inside of the sheep pen. Found some shoes, went out, opened the gate, to discover it had left with mum. The sheep are all so friendly now. Good as Salle is coming tomorrow to shear them. Asked Herbie if he'd help, hell no ! Will only help if it entails shoosting them. Checked the nest, still 7 eggs umhatched, one with a dime-sized hole and I could see the live gosling. So moved them to the sitting ducks. Will check them again tomorrow.
Waiting for rain ! Got a little this morning but not enough to even wet the ground. Elizabeth drove with me around the pastures yesterday checking fencing and the pastures, and wow, they're dry. Need the skies to open, please God. When we arrived back home this evening after taking Elizabeth back to g'mas' discovered that the tap at the back of the house was on slightly. Both window wells and the whole garden bed, flooded. Oy vey, don't even want to check the basement as we are probably completely under-water down there.
Was a beautiful day here today. Sorry that we couldn't get to stay here and get something done on the farm. Herbie and Elizabeth picked 8 large punnets of strawberries this morning while I made breakfast. Wanted to take some to Mabel but he forgot. We stopped in the village for icecream on our way home. For a small village it's really buzzing ! We sat on a bench on Main Street to eat our treats, and it's like Park Station at rush hour !
Anni thinks she's an orphan :/. Threw a stick for her a few times tonight after checking on the cows. Daisy May is starting to bag, and Dolly looks like her hooha is starting to soften. About time - don't think her udder can grow any larger. It looks as if it's going to pop ! And she's very uncomfortable. Doesn't seem to walk much.
Stopped at Julie and Rons' new house. They were pouring the foundations, one truck pouring, the 2nd waiting. Looks like a good size, but both Herbie and I thought they'd build deeper onto their property, but Julie told Herbie that they can't see the neighbours from the house. Walked back to their shooting range, nice area with railroad sleepers put into position to take the shots. Saw their shed. Nice cement apron with their braai and patio chairs. Wish we lived closer. Maybe they should get some sheep to help clear out some of the growth. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink !
Well, off to bed with us. Herbie is sleeping on the lounge floor again, methinks :)
