3 ewes have lambed, only expect 1 more to go, Liquorice. So far all white / black twins, first 2 boys, then girl / boy, and the latest 2 girls. The youngest black girl has white frosting on her head, ears, belly and butt. Makes her ears look droopy :). Last night I heard Buttercup urgently calling, so fetched the torch and went to find which lamb, or maybe both, was outside the fence. Was the little white girl. Put her back in, mum much happier, and the torch died. Went back inside to switch it out with another and put it back on to charge, and then started looking for the black girl. Found her sleeping in the hay. Roused her and pushed her head followed with the rest of her through the feeder fence. She wasn't awake yet, so was just standing there, swaying slightly. Reached through and pushed her forward until she baa-ed and mum came to find her.
The 2 bottle babies are doing very well. They come running when I call for them, bunting against me, hard, looking for their milk. They follow me outside, they're adorable, but I have to walk quickly otherwise I trip over them :)
Yesterday, Herbie said that the lambs were trying to kill us by burning the house down. The beam across the 2 baby pools was knocked down and the straw mat and the actual pool was burnt / melted. Found the produce baskets in with the ducks, so nope, not the lambs, must be the cats jumping up on the zero-turn. Until later in the afternoon and I found the 2 laying chickens in the garage, so, the chickens are trying to do us in !
The lambs learn quickly. They're not allowed in the pools, nor in the house.
My maple syrup making is on-going. 5 x quarts so far, but we're nearly at the end of sap collecting, so maybe another 2 quarts to come. Not bad for my first tapping of only 4 trees ! More next year - if we're still on the farm.
The new chicks, guineas and ducklings are doing well. Touch wood (said touching my head) we haven't lost anymore !
Jackie came over for eggs yesterday and stayed for some coffee, and Betsi ce for eggs today, and checked out all the animals. Her mum has property that she just needs to fence so she can grow some lambs for the table :).
Hmm, making me hungry. Maybe prawn pasta :)
