Went to get 2 more bales of hay from Mike. He had a replacement skidsteer as his was in for service. The loaner was a beauty, cab and all :). He agreed with me that he preferred the loaner.
Came home to meet with potential new herdshare owners, Angela and her son, Alex. Gave them a gallon of our milk and showed them around the milk parlour and how I do things.
The wind is absolutely howling, it's getting much colder dropping over 20 degrees from our high of 50 today and there is rain, ice-rain mixed with snow. Saw one of the corrugated iron roof panels from Little Africa blown over the back yard of the chicken house, and heard a tree fall while I was feeding the sheep their night bale.
I'm legal again. My permanent residence card (green card) with my married name arrived in the mail. So once again looking for an off-farm job. Not sure if I should go for another corporate one, or if I should find a little, maybe even a part-time, one. Balancing the need for money against the need to look after what I've spent the last 4 years building.
The thaw allowed me to drag all the hosepipes used in watering the various animals down the driveway to drain, then rolling them up and storing in the shed. But it meant I was dirty and wet, so showered before putting clean sheets on the bed, or having lunch. Leftover potato soup with Marmite soldiers, although there was a 2 hour break in my lunch so I could fetch the hay and see the new people. Well, that's why microwaves are so handy, ain't it :).
It's Thanksgiving this Thursday, and Herbie is working :(. Maybe I should ask for a turkey :). Dry old bird, which neither of us really enjoys, except sliced on a club sandwich. Hmmm, maybe I should process a goose. I looked at them yesterday, and can't tell which are the males or females of the gray ones. The White Chinese geese are easy to sex, but they're much smaller. Never cooked a goose before. Wonder if Herbie has had goose before.
