Just been outside after closing the garage door, shoosting the chickens off my herb planter outside the garage side door and smelt skunk ! Yuk. Wonder if the dogs chased one as I heard a commotion earlier.
Sitting here sipping a smooth apple pie moonshine that I made 2 years ago. Should have remembered to take some down for Tanya and Andrè. Sorry :)
Had a rather productive day. Teri came over to help with a project so I thought good time to plant the blueberries, lavender and grapevines. She arrived while I was still milking, and being a little distracted, I didn't free Daisy May immediately after milking so she pooped in the milking stall. Big, green, runny splatter ! Thanks Daisy May. Then I flooded the feed room with hot water. Washed down the poop-site with the bleach udder-washing water. Got over 5-gallons of creamy milk this morning. Daisy May is actually a pleasure to milk - takes about 4 minutes to drop just under 4 gallons of milk. Dolly is s-l-o-w with a capital S. Think she's bright enough to realise that she gets more grain the longer she stands there. Teri weeded around some of the fruit trees while I cleaned up after milking and poured the milk. Manda takes 3-gallons on a Friday, the cats and dogs got about a gallon and I started some yoghurt with the remaining 2-gallons.
Teri pointed out to me that there were tent-worms on one of my new fruit trees, I broke off all the affected limbs this evening. We planted the 4 lavender, commiserated over the one surviving lavender bush that I annihilated with the lawnmower yesterday. Oy vey ! Put me on that zero-turn and I seem to go a little crazy.
We planted all the remaining blueberries, even those that looked dead, maybe they'll revive next Spring, and if not; there's a nice hole ready to accept a new plant in the Spring. Ever the optimist.
We didn't get to the grapes, a task for Sunday ?
After she left, I hopped into the shower as I was filthy and drenched in sweat. Horribly humid here. Then drove Noddy to Burton, just South of Flint to collect the replacement tyre for the buggy that came in yesterday. Called Mabel, my mother-in-law the see if she was home, and also stopped by Julies' muffler shop to say hi. Also saw Little Tony and Colt. Didn't recognise Colt ! Wow. He thought it was perhaps because he wasn't wearing a cap, had a bit of facial hair, which was getting white strands. LOL. Welcome to getting older. Julies neck is bothering her and her court case for the car accident caused by another woman is still dragging on ! Damn lawyers.
Only stayed about 5-minutes, Julie was running around, then went on to Mabels'. Chatted with her for about 15 minutes, then off home. Oops, fuel down to ¼ tank, but fuel prices in Michigan have increased despite world crude oil prices falling. Herbie said he'd heard that the BP refinery was having issues. So stopped at WalMart and put in only 5-gallons. Filled the tank ! Love my little Noddy car. The girl working there asked me if it was fun to drive. My answer "hell yes" !!!
Down I-75 when I saw a Ya-ya's advertising board. Yep, lunch tomorrow. Grilled chicken with Nandos hot peri-peri sauce would make it just like Nandos chicken from South Africa.
There were interruptions on the radio about severe weather, and a friend who lives down the road from us posted on FB that a big storm was arriving. Although I drove through a rainstorm on my way home, it hadn't rained here. Dammit. My newly planted things need rain. About 5 drops fell while I was delivering hay to the various beasties, and now at 11pm there is thunder. Please, please God, let it rain, a nice soft, long farmers' rain, not a gully washer.
Herbie was already sleeping when I got home, so just kissed him goodnight. Wasn't planning on eating any of the chicken, it was late and I'd been messengering with a new friend and some old ones, and realised that I hadn't eaten all day. So I had some chicken, with peri-peri sauce. Probably won't be able to sleep.
About to tootle upstairs, take my second shower of the day, wash my hair and climb into bed.
Goodnight.
