A little cutie pie born this morning. Don't understand why the beasties always choose a cold, wet, nasty day to birth ! I actually got to touch this little one as she was cold and huddled and mum allowed me to pick her up to get her to nurse.
We took old hay bales out and built a wind block around. Mum thought we'd bought her food / amusement. Looking out the kitchen window later I saw Little Red tossing it with her head. Thinking of naming her Seasaidh (SHAY-see) meaning "God is gracious" a Scottish derivative of Janet and populised by the poet Robert Burns :).
The lambs are doing well. The 3 run up the straw / manure hillocks in their enclosure, and jump down, kicking their legs out. Herbie tried to get video if them but as soon as he started filming they went and nursed, and then lay down to nap.
The bulls weren't happy being separated from the girls. Gabriel lay down in the channel closest to them, but I'm a lot happier with them separated. Don't want Eleanor being knocked up as a 6-month old, and Immanuelle is nearly a year and Is also too young to be preggers. This way I should be able to control which bull impregnates which cow. Daisy May needs to wait at least 2 more months so that we have her next calf born in April 2016, not in the middle of Winter. There is a nice gap between Dolly and Daisy May ensuring we have a continuous milk supply next year. Ar least that's the plan.
