Bucketed down today. At least twice, with normal rain for most of the rest of the day. Probably just as well I didn't cut hay on Monday, wouldn't have been able to get it all baled and put up before todays' rain. Went down to Charlotte to pick up some hay yesterday. A guy there had custom round-baled about 75 bales for a guy with a cow operation near Detroit who then advised that he was selling his cows. So he offered 4x5 net wrapped first cutting for $25 each to get them out of the field. Great for me. Only problem is Herbie said our trailer wasn't road-worthy, the axles tilt inwards when loaded with ours square bales of hay, never mind big, 900lbs round bales and the truck can only take 2. 66 miles round trip with diesel will make them much more expensive. Maybe the guy can deliver. He offered his trailer to me, but it's a 5th wheel and our truck isn't geared for that. I asked Herbie how much it would cost to put a 5th wheel attachment in the truck bed and he said "too much". Probably not cricket to borrow a trailer from Mike, seeing as I'm looking at buying cheaper hay from someone else.
Angie and John brought over a bushel plus of sweet corn for us. Thank you muchly. I'll freeze some whole cobs for Herbie to eat, and then can the rest. Being allergic, will have to wear gloves to shuck them. Was going to start them today while waiting for the AT&T for our new internet. I managed to lower our cellphone bill by a little, and our internet bill as well even with DirectTV back again. No DVR but more channels than we've had for years.
My Gingered Peach jam is a hit. Herbie ate a whole jar in one sitting. Some with cheese on a sandwich, some with peanut butter. He couldn't identify the ginger, but said it was very "peachy". I'm pleased, as I used raw sugar instead of the usual white sugar. I always think things made with white sugar has an off aftertaste. He also had our first tomato today. Forgot to ask if it was a good one.
Last night, I saw a little red, squiggly line starting up the side of my foot. OK, think I'll go to the Dr now. Herbie asked me on Tuesday why I wasn't going to the Dr for my foot. My response, well he had to go to the Dr, and then the ortho guy this month already so we've paid out a bit on medicals already, plus I was soaking my feet in the foot spa thingy, hot water and Epsom salts. It started hurting about 4 days ago. Not sure what I stood on, or when it actually happened, there wasn't anything sticking out, but I could see a black spot in my foot. It's on the outside of my right foot, so difficult for me to examine. Did it about a week and a half ago but it only hurt a few days ago. I'd been spraying it with peroxide after working on the farm, soaking it at night. At the Drs, he was a little concerned about the line together with the bit of a temperature I was running. 100.8. Saw it on the paperwork his office gave me, which is better than what I thought he said - 108 :). I had been feeling a little hot, but thought it was just the weather heat and humidity, although I told Herbie a few days ago I wasn't feeling great, just a little off. So now I'm on anti-biotics. I hate being on them as they don't agree with me. Fortunately I have a batch of yoghurt draining, need those probiotics. Thank you to Herbie for driving me to the Dr and then to pick up the script. Need to keep it dry, and soak it in Epsom salts a few times a day. He said lots of pus and a black thing came out. I was lying on my tummy and didn't see any of it.
So, I'm still hobbling around, putting boots on when I go out. No more barefoot until it's healed :(.
