Once back in the house, I went outside to check the water and Dolly was standing at the bottom of the lower barn enclosure. So I called her up, she needs to drink water after the grain ration, althoughI pre-soak the beet pulp and had added the drench to her feed which was liquid. She came up to the trough and drank, then made her way to the good bale they've been eating, and started eating hay :))). Seasaidh was already there eating hay, but other cows were already in the veggie garden so they came to eat hay as well. Taxes started bawling again, made his way to the group of cows, and Dolly went over to him and he nursed. Yippee. Thank you God for looking out for her. I'll give her another injection tomorrow, and if she's still a little wobbly, I'll put up a Dextose drip for her. Plus more garlic and maybe she'll be on the mend.
Had a mess in the lower barn to clean up as I'd left the door open so Dolly could go in and eat, and she was the first to come into the barn tonight as I was setting up for milking. Didn't put her food in the stall feeder, as she's rather wobbly on her feet and Eleanor would want to go into the same stall, so I made up her concoction in a 17-gallon bucket down there I use for water when I have a cow tied in a stall. Slipped through the gate ip to the milk parlour and gave her the bucket if feed. She had some, not a lot, but was keener to go ip jnto the milking stall. But the other cows had arrived so I blocked her while Daisy May and Eleanor charged up into the milk parlour, then I closed the gate so Dolly couldn't come up. She then just stood at the gate looking at me. Damn. Got the tube of pro-biotics, forced it into her mouth and squeezed her a dose. She swallowed most of it. Also poured a little from the bucket into the alpaca feeder where Seasaidh was munching on her ration. Dolly is alpha cow, but in her weakened state, I watch her so that she doesn't get pushed around. She ate a bit more. Left the 2 of them down there and went to wash and milk the other two girls. When they were finished milking, I opened the gate, they went down into the lower barn, licked the alpaca feeder and then I shoo'd them all out. With my fiddling with the gate, Eleanor got impatient, pulled as far back as the lead would let her, panicked, pooped, all before I could release her. So a lot of pooper scooper this evening for me. Dolly was still keen to come up into the milk parlour, and as she'd eaten such a little, I fetched the bucket of her concoction and poured it into the feeder in her usual stall. She came up and started eating, slowly, and when she stopped, I added a little more as she was more interested in the usual ration than the additions. Also, she's never had the beet pulp with molassas before, so it took a little while for her to realise it was rather yummy. I fastened her to the wall and gave her a penicillin injection. She danced a little when the needle went in, and I rubbed her neck where I objected her But, she finished all her food. Very slowly, I'd finished cleaning all the equipment, sat and petted the dogs, and was waiting for her to move out so that I could drain the pipes over that stall. Shoo'd her out as she started to poop and pulled the door down. Put the light back on to check her poop, dark and not a lot, but not too bad. More shovelling.
